Initial Post

This is my first entry and hopefully not the last. At times I feel I have something important to say that others should hear. But, honestly, usually these items of importance are nothing more than the ramblings of an old man. This weekend, March 27, 2009, was the first official "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans" observance. Capitol Park's Vietnam Memorial was the site for us to welcome one another home and be welcomed by others. A group of Buddist monks and followers were in attendance to place a wreath of their own and to pray and bless the wall with all the names of California Vietnam veterans that gave all. This blessing by the Buddists was also a thank you to Vietnam veterans for fighting a most difficult war along side them to save their country from communist control. The celebration short and sweet, to the point and IMPORTANT to all the vets in attendance. Quite different from my return home December 1970. More on that another time. All the wreaths were donated by South Lawn Funeral Home on Stockton Blvd, located in the middle of what now known as "Little Siagon". Thank you South Lawn. After the rendering of the colors, placing of the wreaths, a prayer by Maj. Garrison we listened to a couple speakers then were dismissed and directed to reassemble at the Bunker (aka The Torch Club) for chow. Wonderful day, meeting new friends and catching up with old buddies.
